The Tawai Village Wood Carving Fair brings together lovers of all things artsy and specially handcrafted items made from wood.

The fair is held annually and is a must experience for visitors who would like to learn the intricacies of wood carving.

The fair is held at the village of Baan Tawai which is located about 16kms south-west from the old city in Chiang Mai. For this reason, it is not uncommon to have the locals refer to the fair as the Baan Tawai Village Wood Carving Fair. Needless to say, this village is the focal point for wood artisans from across Chiang Mai.

The wood fair also features plenty of other activities including cultural performances, a woodcarving competition, a cooking contest as well as sale of handcrafted items. Visitors will be able to get up close with the woodcarvers as they watch how these artists create such intricate pieces and how they decorate them.

After you finish browsing through the festival, check out the range of other stores here, as you will also find silverware, lacquerware, hand-woven textile and basketry. There will be plenty of sculptures and carvings available for sale, so grab one to take home to remember your time in Thailand!
